June 1943, Perpignan, the south of France

The night before my scheduled escape, I can’t get enough of Harry’s warm touch; the citrusy scent of his cologne tantalizes my senses. While we lie in bed and talk, I yearn to cement every detail of him into my memory: the way he smells; the touch of his skin; his easy smile; the way his eyes sparkle the moment he sees me. If someone asked what it feels like to be happy, I would say it’s being in the arms of someone dearest to you.

“I’m afraid of what tomorrow brings,” I say and kiss his chest. “What if we are caught by the Germans or the French gendarmes?”

His fingertips travel down my arm to my hand causing flutters in my stomach. “It’s the only possible route now; the only other choice would be staying here until the war ends. If you did that, you could get more involved helping Leon with his forgery work.”

“We don’t know how much longer the war will last. I need to reunite with the rest of our cryptology team and help them with our mission.”

“I know, which is why I won’t stop you, but believe me, if I only could…” He withdraws his hand from mine and pulls me closer. “You’re well prepared for this. I’m sure that once you get to England, you will be assigned to continue your work on decrypting, but I do have an apartment in the center of London where you can stay as long as you wish. I hope to join you there soon, once my duties here end.”

“I can’t wait to be there with you,” I say and kiss his lips, which feel so soft and electrifying. Excitement rushes through me and sets my heart on fire. For a heavenly moment, our lips dance in an exquisite symphony of exploring and touching.

He deepens the kiss by gently stroking my tongue with his, deliciously tormenting and teasing every nerve in my body.

I feel breathless but don’t want this intimate moment to end. Our hearts beat as one while passion slips through my veins. I can’t get enough of him, now or ever.

When he lifts his mouth, his eyes are a shade of the darkest blue, and his breathing is labored. “Every time I kiss you, the entire world stops. Why is that, darling?” His thumb caresses my cheek.

“I feel the same.” I bury my face in his chest and close my eyes. “It’s hard for me to talk about such deep feelings. I never had anyone to do it with while growing up, so I don’t know how. Yet I cherish every time that you tell me how you feel, your deepest thoughts and the sensations you experience. Please, never stop.”

“I won’t. It will come to you with time. I talked with my mother about everything, but when she passed, it all changed. It was never the same with my father, even though I always knew he loved me.”
